Traveling Spoon

Every meal is a family affair in Penny's home, where Penny hosts together with her sister Tam. Talent runs in this family, as both sisters are excellent cooks with lovely personalities. In addition to Penny and Tam, Penny's husband, Jonathan, and their two children will also participate, when they are home, and help cook Penny's signature Thai dishes. Penny first learned to cook as a young girl helping her grandmother in the kitchen and then later in her girls prep school. After traveling to the U.S., she found she missed the Thai flavors of home; it was during her time in the US that she learned to adapt her Thai dishes and cooked for all of her friends for special occasions, including potlucks for football games. Leave your experience with Tam and Penny with a boatload of knowledge on Thai food and, of course, full stomachs. Penny's condominium sits atop the 27th floor of one of the most luxurious buildings in the area. It is located a short walk from the BTS Skytrain station Asok. As Penny prepares her mouthwatering menu of colorful dishes, guests are able to sit at the peninsula bar or at their kitchen table before coming together to devour her dishes. Some of the dishes guests can expect to enjoy include kaeng khiaao waan (green curry), khaao phat (fried rice), and gai pad med ma muang (stir-fry chicken with cashew nuts). For dessert enjoy one of Penny's signature dishes, bua loy (rice balls in sweetened coconut milk). If you book a cooking experience, learn to make 2-3 traditional Thai dishes with Penny and Tam in their kitchen. Please note Penny has two young children who may be present during your experience.

Bangkok

Bangkok is chief port capital of Thailand and one of the most important cities in Southeast Asia. It is the epitome of the country's kaleidoscopic blend of old and new. It is an expression of Thai respect for tradition coupled with their vibrant involvement with modern progress. Rama I built the walled Grand Palace, which contains Temple of the Emerald Buddha. During the 19th century, Bangkok was known as the Venice of the East because of its many canals, which served as streets and commercial thoroughfares. Houses perched along the banks of the remaining canals are still common sight. Some of Bangkok’s most distinctive features are the approximately 400 Buddhist temples, known as wats. Bangkok is Thailand's economic center. Other sights to see include Temples, monuments, museums, Vimarnmekh Mansion, and Jim Thompson’s House.
